What this is

Defense starts at the feet

Most young infielders get told to “stay down” and “use two hands” — and never get taught the part that actually decides the play: getting to the ball on time, in position to throw. That's what this night is. Not a showcase, not a tryout — a working clinic where every athlete gets coached, every rep.

What we work

Four blocks, in order

The same progression we run with M4P athletes, scaled to each age group.

01

Pre-Pitch & First Step

Rhythm, timing the hop, reading it off the bat, getting the body moving before the ball is hit.

02

Footwork & Approach

Angles to the ball, working through it instead of waiting on it, backhands and glove-side rounds.

03

Glove Work & Exchange

Soft hands, funnel to the center, clean transfer — timed so they can see it get faster.

04

Throwing on the Move

Feet, footwork and accuracy from every arm slot — double play feeds and the run-through play.

The 10-Minute Infield Warm-Up

The sequence we teach at M4P, cut down to ten minutes a parent can run in a driveway: first step, footwork, glove work, exchange — with reps and the cue for each.

Is this your athlete?

Who it's for — and who it isn't

Built for

  • Infielders ages 8U–14U — and players who want to become one
  • Rec-league and travel-ball players alike; groups are built by age and experience
  • First-timers. If your athlete has never done a clinic, this is an easy one to start with

Not the night for

  • High school players — our Offseason Opener camp on October 3 is built for grades 9–12
  • Pitchers looking for mound work — this night is all defense
  • Families looking for a showcase or evaluation event. Nobody is being scouted or ranked here
After the last rep

What your athlete leaves with

A clinic is worth what your athlete still has a week later. Here's what comes home:

  • Footwork and glove-work progressions your athlete can keep running at home
  • A timed glove-to-release exchange — and the number to beat next time
  • One specific thing to work on next, from the coach who ran their group

Want the full picture?

The clinic coaches. The assessment measures.

This night is coaching, not a written evaluation. If you want your athlete's measured baseline — movement screen, HitTrax and Blast Motion numbers, film, and a written report with a free 4-week program — that's the $50 in-house assessment. The clinic is a good way to meet us first.

Clinic FAQ

Is this a tryout or a showcase?

No. It's a working clinic — every athlete gets coached at every station. Nobody is being scouted, ranked, or cut. The only evaluating happening is coaches watching feet so they can fix them.

My kid has never done anything like this. Will they be lost?

No — athletes are grouped by age and experience, so beginners and travel-ball players both get coached at their level. The footwork we teach is the starting point of infield defense; it assumes nothing.

What should my athlete bring?

Glove, turf shoes or cleats, and a water bottle. Athletic clothes ready to work. It's a defense night — no bat or helmet needed.

Do I need to stay?

You're welcome to stay and watch — plenty of parents do. Drop-off is fine too. Either way, pick-up is at 7:45 PM.

Can siblings or teammates come?

Yes — the more the better, they push each other. Register each athlete separately. Southside Prospects and current M4P athletes get the $40 rate with the club code.

What if something comes up after we register?

More than 7 days before the clinic: full refund, or move your spot to a future event — your choice. Inside 7 days we can transfer the spot to another athlete. And if we ever have to cancel or reschedule — weather included — you get a full refund or a spot at the new date, whichever you prefer.

When do we get results?

The coaching happens live, the same night — including timed exchange work, so your athlete leaves with a number to beat. A clinic isn't a written evaluation, though. If you want the full measured baseline and a written report, that's our $50 assessment, and this clinic is a good way to meet us first.
